Language skills in Greek-English bilingual children attending Greek supplementary schools in England

Many parents in the UK enrol their children Greek supplementary schools so can learn and maintain language culture parallel with English mainstream education. Despite fears about effects of this heritage (Greek) use on children’s skills majority (English), research these somewhat hidden to date is limited qualitative nature. The current study first quantitative which examines effect attending a school vocabulary grammar scores Greek-English bilingual children. We administered battery tests both languages 31 children, aged 5–13 years, closely looked at participants’ history using parental questionnaires. Using multiple regression analyses we examine relationship between relevant variables, such as years find that higher Greek, tasks, although no significant was detected development skills. Crucially, does not negatively predict tasks. Implications our results future directions are discussed.
